Necessity is the Mother of Invention
In 2019 we were forced to upgrade our wheels. Using our experience with the railriding business and assistance of professional manufacturers, we developed a rail bike wheel that is super tough, and built to withstand commercial use.
In 2014, we opened our first Railrider adventure in Joseph Oregon using quadricycles built to run on rails. Our fledgling business grew rapidly and so did the demand on the equipment. We began with plastic wheels, at our Oregon and Washington sites. While some of these original wheels are still in use, manufacturing changes around 2018 weakened the hub and spokes. Plastic hubs that flexed or broke causing derailments on tight curves were NOT acceptable.
Our 18″ aluminum wheels are built with stainless steel hubs and polyurethane rolling surfaces that hold the rails on tight curves. Derailing was eliminated! The stainless steel hubs are easily removable from the axel if needed. An unanticipated bonus: they roll whisper quiet down the track!
